A benefit of wooden balusters is the wide range of options available. Wood balusters can be turned or square and most commonly are primed white. Various wood species are available for a custom look. You may get them in a variety of shapes, too, lending more to their customizable quality.
• Iron Balusters - Iron balusters are a more popular option. They are available in several colors and the design options for iron balusters are endless. You can create intricate patterns to make your interior stairs stand out or go with a more uniform approach. Iron balusters are also much more durable and require less maintenance than wooden balusters.

Horizontal Options

Cable rails and horizontal bars are modern options that are gaining more and more traction. They are more expensive than vertical balusters but offer a much more unique look for your staircase. Stairworx offers two different options:

• Cable Rails - This option utilizes coated stainless steel cables to give a minimal and sleek look to your staircase. In fact, they don't require much maintenance at all after installation. Cable railings will need a post or support every six feet or less to insure safety. The number of strands of cable needed will vary based on your staircase layout.
• Horizontal Bars- Stairworx also offers powder-coated tubular bars. They are 5/8" in diameter and eight feet long. There are a variety of color options, allowing you to choose what fits best in your home. You can get satin black or create a crisp and clean look with white bars. Like the iron balusters and stainless steel cables, the maintenance on these is minimal. Horizontal bars are less expensive than cable railing and provide the modern look homeowners desire.
